My HAIR Washing No No’s for Shampoos/Cleansers

3 Nov

Hi all,

I decided to give you lovely ladies… and gents, some hair washing no no’s when it comes to shampoo.  Here is what NOT to do! Enjoy

When selecting a shampoo or cleanser:

  • Check the ingredients
  • Check the size
  • Check the price

BUY:

  • Paraben Free
  • Sulfate Free (ANY AND EVERY KIND)
  • Ammonium Free
  • Sulfur Free

Do NOT buy:

  • extremely expensive shampoo (you don’t have too)
  • shampoos that you know nothing about (do your research first, your hair is worth it)
  • shampoo with a lot of chemicals (natural ingredients and few amount of ingredients is best)
  • extremely cheap shampoo’s unless they are cheap and good for your hair (I highly doubt that)

What’s good for your hair is probably going to come at a “medium/middle” cost. (for lack of better words)  The cleanser/shampoo should have least amount of products as possible and I always suggest that you purchase a shampoo/cleanser that does NOT lather.

My Recommendation for Hair Cleanser:

  1. WEN by Chaz
  2. Hair One (at Sally’s and is a generic version of WEN)

Hair Growth

So this has been long awaited and heavily requested.  When I say this is one of my most popular questions I mean it.  I get asked about my hair so much.  I am not saying that in a vain way I am simply saying that to say that I have transformed my hair into healthy, happy, strong and long.  Therefore a lot of people ask about it.  My daughter has beautiful hair and I get questions about her hair all the time as well.  Before I share with you my day to day routines and products, I want to say that I am mixed race.  My hair grows extremely fast most of the time and my hair is very “good” from genetics.

Day to Day:

“The Wash”

On a daily basis I use very minimal products on my hair.  Typically you will see my hair curly.  I CO-WASH and deep condition my hair every other day.  The only way to manage my curly hair is by washing it at minimum every other day.  Therefore I NEVER use products with PARABAN or SULFATE.  The products I use DO NOT strip my hair of its natural oils, they simply cleanse my hair, moisturize it and condition it.  I use a product called WEN (generic version “Hair One” from Sally’s).  This is a hair cleanser.  This product is single handedly responsible for “saving” my hair.  It was when I chopped off all the damaged hair and began using Wen that my hair went back to its beautiful beginnings.  Wen saved my hair.  After using Wen I immediately deep condition my hair. Do you have too? No. But that is what I do and I think that is what keeps my hair in great condition.

Products

  • Hair One for any hair types (Black, White, Asian, Indian, Spanish, Etc)
  • Organic Root Stimulator Olive Oil Replenishing PAk

“The Hydration”

After cleansing and moisturizing I use a 2 spoonfuls of all natural virgin coconut oil.  I massage it through my scalp and gently work it down to my ends.  If I have to go some where right away. I use Curl creme to lock in my curls. This does not harden my curls it just simply defines them. These two products really keep my hair from being dry and breaking.

Products

  • Spectrum Organic Coconut Oil
  • Curls Unleashed Organic Root Stimulator Curl Defining Creme

“The Blow Out”

1-2 Times per month I blow out my hair using a blow dryer.  I do all the steps from “The Wash” & “The Hydration” minus the curling creme.  I also use less coconut oil (about a dime size instead of quarter size) because once you straighten your hair it can become greasy if you applied too much coconut oil.  I then separate my hair into four sections.  I gently comb through my curls using a wide tooth come and then pin up all sections but one at a time.  I spray each section with a heat protector & add  volume serum that thickens my hair.  I use a blow dryer with an attached brush and brush through each section while drying it.  After all sections are COMPLETELY dry I separate my hair into four sections again and begin flat ironing each section at a time taking small pieces and re-spraying them with heat protectant before running the iron over them.  After I am done, I let my hair cool so that it does become creased and then I wrap it each night around my head and place a scarf & bonnet on.  My straightened hair usually last for 1-2 weeks.  I do not need to wash my hair at all when it is straightened.  My hair has pretty good natural oils therefore I do not need to add any products which helps keep my hair clean and helps it not to need to be washed.  When its not straightened it is being cleansed on an every other day basis.  When the life of my straightened hair starts to come to an end I begin to use natural products like “split endz” and “hair moisturizer” on it.  Just to give it some extra moisture before I get back into the routine of wearing it curly again.

Products

  • Conair 1875 Styler
  • Amika 200 Celsius
  • Fantasia Inter Cellular Hair Polisher Heat Protector Straightening Spray
  • Ion Volume Solutions Thickening Styler
  • Lush Split Endz
  • Lush Hair Moisturizer
  • ConAir Hair Clamps
  • Beauty Supply Store Bonnet/Durag (SILK)

“The Style”

I style my hair down and curly a lot but also do a messy bun quite frequently.  Messy buns are in style now as are tight buns and either can make your hair look great without adding any heat or processors.  I also use flex-irods.  They allow you to have gorgeous all day curls without using heat on your hair.

Products

  • Pre-Made Bun
  • Non-Breakable Hair Elastics
  • Any Brand Flexi-Rods

I did not go to beauty school or study every type of hair in the world.  I am sharing this information with you strictly as a consumer, customer and friend.  This is why my hair is so long right now.  This is why it is so healthy and strong.  Will this work for your hair type?? I do not know but I think it is worth a try.
