It started with a whisper

8 Oct

Recently I have been struggling in my journey with my son’s autism. And in the midst of this family tragedy, my father was diagnosed with cancer and recently operated on. All of these changes in life got me thinking and evaluating what I want out of this life. So, I decided to enroll in a Master’s Degree program & work towards receiving my doctorate. I also decided to continue providing my daughter with a private home education. My son starts intensive therapy & treatment next week. 5 hours of therapy a day for 4 days a week. Although I have a lot on my plate right now, something is whispering in my ear telling me that everything is going to be alright. Everything is going to work out with my schooling and my daughters education. I can’t be sure what will happen with Kian or how he will respond to treatment but all I can do is hope.  Today he said “I’m a boy” and that was major. In my mind these are signs of the good things that are on their way.

We’ll talk soon 🙂

Wake Me Up When It’s All Over……

When I am wiser and I’m older!

I love this song and am currently obsessed with it and the message it gives.  I find myself feeling like some of these songs were written for me by me.  Below are the lyrics to the song and here is the link to the video. http://www.vevo.com/watch/avicii/wake-me-up-lyric-video/CH3131340062

“Wake Me Up” by Avicii

Feeling my way through the darkness
Guided by a beating heart
I can’t tell where the journey will end
But I know where to start
They tell me I’m too young to understand
They say I’m caught up in a dream
Well life will pass me by if I don’t open up my eyes
Well that’s fine by me

So wake me up when it’s all over
When I’m wiser and I’m older
All this time I was finding myself
And I didn’t know I was lost
[x2]

I tried carrying the weight of the world
But I only have two hands
I hope I get the chance to travel the world
And I don’t have any plans
I wish that I could stay forever this young
Not afraid to close my eyes
Life’s a game made for everyone
And love is a prize

So wake me up when it’s all over
When I’m wiser and I’m older
All this time I was finding myself
And I didn’t know I was lost
[x2]

I didn’t know I was lost
I didn’t know I was lost
I didn’t know I was lost
I didn’t know I was lost

Do You Have Faith?

2 Oct
Image

Faith
noun

  1. Complete trust and confidence in someone or something.
  2. Strong belief in God or in the doctrines of a religion, based on spiritual apprehension rather than proof.

What does faith mean to you?  For me it means strength, loyalty, belief, trust and endurance! A bit more than what the definition entails.  What do you have faith in?

My Makeup Routine…

My Makeup Routine

Well its probably no secret, when I am doing my day to day activities I wear no makeup lol.  Just my bare skin.  Good idea? Probably not, but I just throw on some hydrating face lotion with SPF and I am out the door.  HOWEVER, when I am going out to dinner for a special occasion, to an event or a function I put my face on. lol. Not the face I was born with either lol but the one I create.  Here is the order in which I apply my makeup, I think I have really come up with the perfect routine for me and will share what I use to get ready. ***This is not a super quick routine, it is more for a special occasion***

Steps: (Time Required – 30/35 minutes)

1) Wash my face with Purity cleanser kit.  Then follow up by washing with a acne wash cleanser and scrub in circular motions using my beauty brush gently.

2) After washing my face I thoroughly apply Purity lotion from my kit.

3) After allowing my face a moment to dry, I spritz my face with Mac Fix Plus.

4) I then check to see if my eyebrows need a touch up here or there.

5) I begin working on my eye makeup first & applying my lashes.  This takes me the most time and requires the most patience.  I spend about 15 minutes on my eyes.  After applying shadows/cremes I use a gel liner to line my upper lid and then apply mascara before applying my false lashes last.

6) I move on to work on my eyebrows.  I draw in and add shade with shadow to places where I need to fill in.  I use Mac concealer to perfect my brow all around.

7) I apply Givenchy matte primer for pore minimization and then I also apply Mac concealer to any redness. I then begin applying Mac MatchMaster to my face using my foundation brush.  After applying my foundation I move on to apply Studio fix powder in places that require heavy coverage.  I do not use foundation all over my skin only in areas where it is needed.

8) I use translucent powder by Almay and apply that all around using a big fluffy brush.

9) I then apply my bronzer to create contouring effects.  I apply it along the outer circle of my face and a little lower than my cheek bones.  I also apply it on both sides of my nose vertically and under my lip.

10) Next I add blush to the apples of my cheeks making the “fish face.”

11) I blend out my blush and bronzer together so there are no sharp lines.

12) I go in with a little highlight Prep+Prime by Mac and highlight under my eyes, down the center of my nose, the middle of my forehead between my brows, on my chin and the middle of my upper lip where the crease is.  I blend that out really well.

13) I spray my face all over with Mac Fix Plus once more.

14) I add a lip gloss, stain or stick and go.

Tips:

  • Be sure that your brushes are clean prior to use as unsanitary brushes spread germs and bacteria.
  • Be sure that you have all the necessary tools and products to complete your face because time management is key.
  • Be sure that you keep your products up to date and get rid of the ones that have expired.
  • Be sure that you begin using makeup with a clean and dry face.
  • Be sure to wash your hands if you will be using those to make applications.
  • Be sure to use the proper brushes for each product to ensure the life of the product and attain a long lasting application.
  • Be sure to have proper lighting, especially when using tools such as tweezers etc on or near your eyes.
  • Although it is important to use proper lighting it is equally importing to have natural lighting when applying foundation.
  • Be sure that you allow your lash glue time to dry so that it becomes sticky and will adhere to your natural lash.
  • Do NOT pull off false lashes when you are done with them.  Use lash remover or makeup remover and gently remove.

Remember, Makeup is fun and should be used to enhance natural beauty not to change who you are.  It is a fun beauty enhancer that is reasonable affordable.

A Stream Of Light In The Darkest Place…..

30 Sep

Image

It is important to know to keep pressing forward.  I often time feel numbed to my son’s situation almost as if I have been hit by a ton of bricks and can no longer move.  It’s like I am in a dark place.  It’s a place I sometimes like to stay in because it means I don’t have to do anything.  I can just sit there and throw as many pity parties as I can allow myself to throw.  In that place I spend lots of time asking “why me?” and “why us.”  It’s a dark place that is hopeless, sad and full of confusion.  But ultimately the darkness is the most overwhelming part.  You feel lost, out of place and isolated.

And then Kian wakes up and sees a box of crayons only to say, “bay-ons.”  Just like that, the lonely dark place I am sitting in has a stream of bright light shinning through.  Just like that, it isn’t so dark anymore.  That light is the light of possibility.  The light of hope.  The light of belief and the light of faith.  Heavenly Father sends me that light, to let me know that all is not lost.  All is not done.  And that joy is not over.  I say this a lot, but I have never believed in Heavenly Father as much as I do today.  I have seen his work in my life countless times.  I cannot even begin to express the gratitude I have.

A really important friend of mine recently told me something that has stuck with me every day since.  She spoke of Heavenly Father’s love for special needs children.  She spoke of how these special children had already been tested in the previous life and passed, they had earned their place beside Heavenly Father already and that they were sent here to test us.  Every part of that message rings true in my heart today. My son Kian is here to be a blessing in my life and test my faith in the Lord.  He is here to bring joy to my life and build my family.

I would be lying to say that I am happy that my child has to do suffering here on earth but I try and be open to all the beauty that having his presence brings.  See thats it, he passed his test and now it’s time that as a family we pass ours.  We have to show our loyalty to him and to God.

You do not have to share my belief in God to be able to understand how much of a blessing these children are.  What you believe and don’t believe doesn’t even really matter.  Just enjoy your children, no matter what they are or who they are.  That is my advice to any mother.  Special needs mom or not.  Doesn’t matter.

Acceptance Cannot Be Taught…

28 Sep

Image

Can acceptance of other people be taught? Or is it something that should be innate?

When we are raising our children it is so vital that we are exposing them to environments with extreme diversity.  Why? Because it prepares them for what they may encounter in the “real world.”  I believe that a lot about children’s views of the world are taught by the parents.  However I also believe that being a kind person who is accepting is also part of each being.  The nicest parents sometimes breed the worst behaved children.  With that being said I think it may be a combination of teaching and a little bit of bringing out what is already there. Teaching your children how to interact and accept differences in people around them is extremely important.  Will this change the world overnight? No, but over time this will make a difference.  Some children may grow up to be un-accepting no matter what you teach them but at least you would have exhausted every effort trying to help them to understand and accept others. Do you think acceptance is taught or always there… or maybe even both…?

It is the 27th of September somewhere in the world right now, so I ought to kick off the birthday celebration. Happy Birthday to incredible father to my crazy kids. I hope that you are one year wiser and have so much more to appreciate.
